COVID-19: COMMUNITY IN CRISIS

Updated: Dec 31, 2020

Since last March 16, due to COVID 19, the government of Guatemala decided to close all schools. Taking into account that our school year is from January to October, classes were suspended almost at the beginning of the school year. The situation has led us to find alternative ways to continue teaching our children in order to avoid the total loss of this school year. With so many deficiencies in our community, technological resources are not an option.

Thanks to the support we have received, we have been able to provide free printed lessons to all our students, which our teachers have delivered physically at the students' homes, pay the rent for our building that we need to keep, and pay our teachers' salaries. Our incredible teachers are also supporting students with one-on-one tutoring, and in this way keeping them motivated to continue learning. However, our work must continue.

COVID-19 has decimated our community, which was already struggling with extreme poverty and heavily reliant on tourism for income. Only 5% of our students are currently able to pay tuition. We have many ongoing expenses such as building rent and teacher salaries. We are in desperate need of assistance to stay open for our community.

Please consider donating today to support our effort for an education in the midst of this crisis. You can help us to sponsor a child's education or help us with rent costs, teacher salaries, and school supplies.
